Dominic Symes (he/him) lives quietly on the unceded land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
He is a PhD graduate in Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide where he received a Dean’s Commendation award and the ‘Bundey Prize for English Verse’ in 2018.
His first published poem won the Express Media Award for ‘Best Poem Published in Voiceworks’ in 2015. His poetry has since been published in journals such as Overland, Rabbit, Transnational Literature, Australian Book Review and anthologies including Australian Poetry Journal, Award Winning Australian Writing and Best of Australian Poems.
He has appeared on the programs of Adelaide Writers Week in 2017 and 2019, and the Emerging Writers Festival in 2020. His reviews and criticism have appeared in Cordite Poetry Review, Axon: Creative Explorations and TEXT Journal.
He has been Reviews Editor at TEXT Journal and taught Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide, Swinburne University of Technology and LaSalle College of the Arts (Singapore).
He helps curates the monthly poetry reading series NO WAVE at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton.
His first book, I SAW THE BEST MEMES OF MY GENERATION was published November 2022 with Recent Works Press.
